BookmarkNewBot
This page documents the automated client named in our User-Agent string when Bookmark.new performs server-side HTTP requests on behalf of signed-in users.
What it does
When you save a link, our servers may fetch that URL once to read public HTML and response headers. We use that response to extract the page title, meta description, Open Graph fields, and a favicon URL so your bookmark library stays readable and useful. This is separate from in-browser summarization, which runs on your device.
What it is not
BookmarkNewBot is not a search engine crawler and does not systematically crawl or index the web. It does not follow outbound links from the saved page beyond normal HTTP redirects for that single request.
Technical behaviour
- Triggered only by an authenticated user action (saving or refreshing capture metadata for a URL).
- Uses a short timeout and a bounded amount of HTML so requests stay predictable for your infrastructure.
- Favicon checks use the same bot name and fetch only enough bytes to confirm an image response where applicable.
